Makro’s Monthly Shopify Recap – April 2025 Updates
The updates that matter, made simple for growing eCommerce businesses.
Shopify has rolled out a fresh batch of updates this April, and while not every change may apply to your business, many are designed to help mid-sized and enterprise-level retailers streamline operations, enhance brand presentation, and improve customer experience both online and in-store.
To help you stay ahead, we’ve grouped the updates into key categories that reflect your priorities, efficiency, branding, engagement, and international readiness.
Operational Efficiency & Checkout Improvements
These updates are all about working smarter, not harder—with streamlined workflows and more flexible fulfillment options.

1. Ship and Carryout in a Single POS Order
Staff can now process mixed-cart orders, some items for immediate pickup, others for shipping, all in one checkout.
This update means fewer duplicate carts, simpler customer experiences, and more freedom to sell out-of-stock items from other inventory locations. Just note: tax engine and regional rules still apply.
2. Split Line Item Fulfillment Across Locations
Running low on stock at one fulfillment center? Shopify will now automatically split a line item across multiple locations to avoid overselling and streamline logistics.
This helps maximize your inventory coverage without manual workaround solutions.
3. New Add-to-Cart Limits for Online Store
You can now set a maximum quantity per product in a customer’s cart, great for preventing accidental oversharing of inventory levels. Shopify auto-generates a limit based on your order history, but you can adjust it anytime under Settings > Checkout.
4. Set Order Value Limits in Checkout Blocks (Plus Only)
Shopify Plus users can now enforce minimum and/or maximum order values during checkout, perfect for B2B scenarios or bulk discount strategies.
You can apply this to all customers or just B2B companies.
5. Cash Rounding for POS
In countries where small coin denominations are no longer used (like Canada, Australia, and most of Europe), Shopify POS now supports automatic cash rounding. This avoids awkward change issues at checkout and keeps reporting accurate.
Brand Experience & Customization
These updates give you more control over how your store looks and feels, especially at the physical point of sale.

6. Logo & Background Media on Customer Display (POS)
Customize your POS idle screen with your brand’s logo and a background image (PNG or JPG). Ideal for reinforcing brand identity in-store while customers wait or browse.
7. Brand Theme Colors on POS Customer Displays
With Shopify POS v10.0, you can also apply brand colors across all checkout screens, cart, tips, receipts, and thank-you screens. It’s a small touch that enhances a cohesive, professional look.
8. Shopify POS Version 10
POS v10 brings a series of thoughtful UX upgrades:
- Refined visual design for better clarity
- New vertical navigation bar
- Inline search for faster product/staff lookup
- More cart info at-a-glance
- Ability to brand the lock screen too
All designed to reduce friction at checkout and empower your retail staff.
9. Shopify Email Editor Improvements
Create more polished emails faster:
- Control padding for each section (top, bottom, left, right)
- More compact and customizable footers
- Rich text support for footer copy
- New social icons (WeChat, Weibo, WhatsApp) for global connection
These changes allow you to send more brand-consistent, reader-friendly emails with less effort.
Sales & Customer Engagement Tools
Drive more conversions with better merchandising and smarter promo placements.

10. Showcase Discount Codes in the Shop App
Now, when you create discount codes and enable the Shop channel, your offers can appear on product pages inside the Shop app.
It’s a great way to highlight savings and boost conversion, especially with mobile-first shoppers.
11. Personalized Recommendations in Collective
Shopify is now surfacing curated Collective recommendations tailored to your store’s buyer behavior. This can help expand your catalog with complementary products your customers are more likely to buy.
12. Web Pixels Subtotal Tracking Update
Shopify changed how the event.data.checkout.subtotalPrice.amount field behaves in Web Pixels on the new /thank-you page and other checkout events.
What changed?
The subtotal field now includes both product-level and order-level discounts (previously, it only included product-level).
Why it matters:
If you rely on checkout events (like checkout_completed, checkout_started, payment_info_submitted, etc.), you’ll want to ensure your pixels expect the new subtotal format. This aligns new tracking with the old /thank_you page definition and improves consistency in conversion data.
International & Taxation Enhancements
Shopify continues to refine tools for global commerce, especially B2B VAT compliance in Europe and the UK.

13. Reverse Charge VAT Now Includes the UK
Previously available only for intra-EU B2B sales, Shopify’s reverse charge VAT exemption now covers shipments from the EU to the UK as well.
If you're using Shopify Tax, you can apply exemptions directly to customers or company locations. Make sure your store’s default location is set inside the EU to activate this.
Final Thoughts: Which Updates Matter Most?
While some of these features are niche (like VAT reverse charges), others, like mixed shipping in POS, cart limits, and branded email/promo improvements, can offer quick wins for nearly any growing eCommerce brand.
Whether you're scaling operations or enhancing your retail footprint, April’s updates offer both utility and polish. Take a moment to review what’s available in your admin and apply what fits your growth goals.
