OTR Meals

OTR Meals delivers chef-made meals on a weekly subscription. We built the engine behind it: a custom subscription experience on Shopify's Subscriptions API, an order flow rebuilt around the weekly cycle, and the portals both sides of the business run on.

Challenges

Meal delivery does not behave like standard eCommerce. The catalog changes every week, orders lock at a cut-off, holidays move delivery days, and customers expect to adjust next week without calling anyone. Off-the-shelf subscription apps assume a fixed product on a fixed cycle, which is exactly what a weekly menu is not. OTR Meals needed subscription mechanics built around a rotating menu, and the operational tooling to run it day to day.

Solutions

We built a custom subscription engine on Shopify's Subscriptions API and reinvented the order processing flow around the week. Menus are planned in a purpose-built admin panel with display weeks and holidays built in. Customers manage upcoming weeks in their own portal. The OTR team runs the whole operation from one dashboard: orders, subscribers, menus, reports, and delivery settings.

Ordering, rebuilt around the week

Subscribing starts with building your first week. Customers pick meals for each delivery day from that week's menu, watch plan savings and the free-delivery threshold update as they go, and check out with the week already planned.

Customer Portal

One place to run your week

Every subscriber gets a portal: upcoming weeks at a glance, cut-off states on every delivery, and direct controls to edit the menu, change the delivery window or day, or skip a delivery entirely. Changes respect the weekly cut-off automatically.

Customer Portal

Editing a week takes a minute

The edit flow reads like the storefront: browse that week's menu by category, swap meals in and out, keep the per-delivery minimum, and apply the change to future weeks in one confirmation.

Admin Portal

The week from the operator's side

Upcoming subscriptions queue by week with locked and open states and full order detail, down to delivery instructions and payment method. Subscribers, menus, and reports sit one click away, with churn, new subscribers, and active counts in view.

Menus planned weeks ahead

The planning panel builds each display week from slots: load a template, fill the slots, publish. Holidays are built into the calendar, so a moved delivery day is planned rather than patched.
Admin Portal

Delivery rules without developer time

Zones and rates, free-delivery thresholds, delivery days and time windows, plan savings, and promotions are all settings. The OTR team changes them from the dashboard, not through a ticket.
