Senior Shopify Developer, Apps & Integrations

Remote Full-time Engineering Senior

Design and build the custom apps, extensions and integrations that run our merchants' B2B operations.

About the role

We are looking for a senior developer to design, architect and build the custom apps, extensions and integrations that run our merchants' B2B operations, and take them all the way to production. The problems are hard and interesting: large data syncs and ERP integrations that have to run correctly every time.

We build AI-first. Claude Code and agentic workflows are part of how we work every day, alongside a current TypeScript stack and the latest Shopify platform features. Every merchant brings something new, so we need someone who stays calm when a new challenge lands, works out the options, and comes back with a solution.

This is a hands-on role on a small, senior, remote team, where the person doing the work also makes the calls. Your architecture decisions ship, and you will work closely with leadership.

What you would do

  • Design and build Shopify apps and extensions, from architecture to production.
  • Build and maintain Shopify-to-ERP integrations, including data mapping, scheduled and event-driven syncs, and reconciliation.
  • Make system design decisions for integrations that must be correct under load: idempotency, background jobs, rate limits, retries and failure recovery.
  • Work AI-first: use Claude Code and other agentic tools to plan, build, test and review, and keep the repo instructions and guardrails that make them reliable up to date.
  • Set and follow coding standards through code reviews, automated testing and clear documentation.
  • Own what you ship: deployments, monitoring, and fixing production issues quickly and at the root cause.
  • Take on unfamiliar problems, such as a new Shopify API, a new ERP or a merchant's data quirks, and find a way through without waiting to be told how.
  • Keep the merchant's outcome at the centre of technical decisions, and join merchant calls when a technical conversation is needed.
  • Mentor other developers on Shopify and integration patterns.

What you bring

  • Six or more years of software development, with at least three years of TypeScript and Node.js in production.
  • Deep knowledge of Shopify app development: the Admin GraphQL API, webhooks, OAuth and the Shopify CLI.
  • Hands-on experience with Shopify Plus B2B.
  • At least one Shopify-to-ERP integration delivered to production.
  • At least one checkout, customer account or Shopify Functions extension shipped to production.
  • Strong system design skills for high-volume, event-driven integrations.
  • Experience building multi-tenant applications, including data isolation between tenants.
  • Daily use of AI coding tools such as Claude Code, and the judgement to review, test and correct what they produce.
  • A track record of finding solutions when a project hits something new or unexpected.
  • Clear written and spoken English, and the confidence to explain a technical trade-off to a merchant.

Nice to have

  • A public app on the Shopify App Store, including App Store review and the Billing API.
  • Experience running a Shopify app in production at scale.
  • Infrastructure as code (Terraform) and cloud deployment on AWS or Vercel.

Our stack

  • Languages and frameworks: TypeScript, Node.js, NestJS, React, Next.js, React Router, Preact.
  • Shopify: Admin GraphQL API, Polaris, App Bridge, UI extensions, Shopify Functions, theme app extensions.
  • Data: PostgreSQL, Prisma, Drizzle, Redis.
  • Jobs and queues: BullMQ, Inngest.
  • Hosting and infrastructure: Vercel, AWS, Docker, Terraform.
  • Testing: Jest, Vitest, Playwright.
  • AI development: Claude Code.

How we work

Remote-first, senior and small. You own your work and make the calls that go with it. One team owns the whole stack, so there are no handoffs where the work falls through. We hold a high standard and keep improving how we build.

The hiring process

  1. Intro call: a 30-minute conversation about you, the role, and what you are looking for.
  2. Working conversation: a deeper discussion of how you think and how you work.
  3. Practical review: a look at your past work, or a short, paid practical exercise.
  4. Meet the team: time with the people you would work with day to day.
  5. Offer: we move quickly once we know it is a fit.
